The mission of the AGOAS component is to provide substantive and advisory support to all levels of Afghanistan’s Attorney General’s Office. AGOAS’ staff ensures constant communication between the Afghanistan Attorney General’s office and the United States Embassy, and advises and counsels the Afghanistan Attorney General and his staff on a number of law-related activities, with the focus being on five specifically targeted programs:
- Providing advice to the AGO, and supporting law reform
- Increasing the capacity of the AGO to monitor, investigate, prosecute and appeal corruption cases in an efficient, effective and fair manner
- Improving the overall capacity and effectiveness of police and prosecutors by offering education, training, and technical advice and mentoring
- Improving the capacity and effectiveness of police and prosecutors to detect and prosecute gender crimes in particular by offering education, training, and technical advice and mentoring
- Improving the operational capacity of the AGO by offering technical advice on modern management techniques and protocols
